CARACAS, Venezuela, March 20 (UPI) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has sought public support to close down leading Venezuelan TV station Globovision, The Miami Herald reported Thursday.

Referring to the station as “an enemy of the Venezuelan people,” Chavez claimed the station’s news programming runs subversive and salacious stories about the leftist president.

Efforts to silence Globovision come nearly a year after Chavez managed to remove independent TV station RCTV from the airwaves.
